Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, starring Jim Carrey, is a screwball comedy about a relationship between Joel and Clementine. The two characters are complete opposites and find their relationship on the rocks many times. Joel sees Clementine and to his surprise she has no idea who he is. He later finds out that she had her memory of joel "erased" and will never remember him again. Joel decides that he will do this procedure as well and while he is in the process he takes us through his memory. I thought that the way the story was shown through Joel's mind was very interesting along with the techniques used such as the fades and have voices ecko. The idea of erasing someone's mind was very interesting to me and kept me entertained throughout the film. I also thought that Jim Carrey did a good job playing his character which seemed like it would be hard to act.

Western

We just finished our western unit in class and i found myself rather entertained while watching these films. The first western we watched as Stagecoach, the older of the two. Like Citizen Kane i was skeptical about wether i would like the film or not. Stagecoach portrayed the typical western in that it was cowboys vs. indians and the guy you think is going to save the day does. The second film we watched in class was Unforgiven, which was a revisionist western. I enjoyed this movie much more than the previous one mainly because it wasnt so predictable. This film did not include the cowboy vs. indian theme and insted was about a washed up killer going against everything he had gave up. For the outside western i watched Blazing Saddles which is a parody film on the western genre. This film is hilarious and i would recommend it to anyone who isnt afraid of racism. I feel that after watching these three films i got the best of all types of westerns.

Citizen Kane

In class we watched the film Citizen Kane which is a story about a man who comes from nothing and is made into a  wealthy newspaper owner. The film starts with a scene of Kane dying and staying his last word, "Rosebud". The rest of the film takes place in the past and is pretty much a review of his life and trying to find the meaning of "Rosebud". Before we started to watch this movie i was very unsure if i would enjoy watching it or not. i mainly didnt think i would like it because it was an old film that is in black and white. After watching it i realize that it was a decent movie that had very well put together cinematic elements. I believe that most of the reason i liked the film was because i was focusing on what he had previously learned in class, that being how the movie was film, lighting etc...
